Chronic Illness Prep Kits

sapphic-pink-kryptonite:

These are things you’re going to want to build for yourself if you’re chronically ill. When you go out, you need to be prepared in case something goes wrong, to at least help yourself until professional help arrives or you can get to a safe space.

If you are a regular hospital visitor, you need to make an emergency overnight bag. You either grab it as the ambulance is arriving or you tell a loved one “I need X bag in X location” so that nobody has to scramble around for things and wasting time.

My Travel Bag (Purchased here)

If I leave the house, this bag does not leave my side.

image
image

It is big enough to contain (aside from my keys, wallet, and phone)

  • First Aid kit (grey cosmetics bag)
  • Water
  • Umbrella
  • Deodorant
  • Wheelchair gloves
  • eReader
  • Emergency phone charger

That charger lives with you. It does not leave your bag. If you need help and your phone is dead, you’re probably not gonna be able to easily get to a working phone or remember numbers, or potentially know your location if you need to call an ambulance. Make sure your phone is charged.

My First Aid Kit (Purchased here)

image

(Top) Medication, gels (heat/ice/anti-inflammatory)

image

(Middle) Tissues, bandaids (a wheelchair shreds your hands when you’re learning), and disinfectant

(Bottom) Vomit bag, wet wipes, mints (for nausea), more bandaids, inhaler, disposable heat pack, disposable ice pack, stim cube, migrastick (for headaches), ear plugs, jellybabies

The Hospital Bag

Ordinary gym bag.

Contains:

  • Change of clothes
  • Pyjamas
  • Sock
  • Bras
  • Underwear
  • Old running shoes
  • Thongs (flip flops you Americans)
  • Toiletries - tiny shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste
  • Art book and pencils (hospitals are boring af)

Pack old clothes. Hospitals can be gross. I’ve bled all over mine, sweated etc. Not a fashion show. Old clothes you don’t mind getting ruined.

Things need to be loose. My jeans are jeggings (stretchy waist) because if I can’t wear normal pants from pain. You need things that allow doctors access (shirts easily moved for needles or what have you.)

Pack shoes for the shower (if you can shower.) Floors can be unsanitary and the last thing you want is a fungal infection.

Toiletries - tiny shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, baby wipes and hair treatment (if you can’t shower), moisturiser (cold hospital air dries out your skin), and lipbalm

Apps

  • ICE (In Case of Emergency) Card - lists your name, weight, height, emergency contacts, diseases, allergies, medication, and personal notes for paramedics. Can send out alarm calls or messages and is available on your home screen (if you want to set it up that way)
  • Medisafe - track your medication and set reminders. You can set it up to automatically text someone if you skip a dose.
  • FibroMapp - tracks chronic pain and sleep, and helps you illustrate pain levels, times, triggers, and relief
  • Emergency+ (Australian) - gives your exact location and surrounding streets to give to paramedics. You can call from this app.
  • First Aid (Australian) - gives you step by step instructions to help yourself or someone else

Even if you’re not disabled yourself, please rb this because it can genuinely help people who are

The green dot could be “where someone falls” on this spectrum, and the yellow dots their views. It’s hard to even establish where the green dot would go, but based on this example it would be off-centered to the left a bit, despite still having views that align with Republicans from time to time.

People aren’t one-dimensional. Even if you “belong” to one party, you can still agree with the other.

Sometimes good posts are made by annoying people so I’ll help out

These are Safe Shorts. They were made by Sandra Seilz after someone attempted to rape her. If the fabric is torn, an alarm will be sounded.

image

This is the Rape-aXe, invented by a South African doctor by the name of  Sonnet Ehlers. After interviewing a rape victim who wished she had teeth down there, she made this. If someone’s penis is inserted and pulled back out, the teeth will sink in, and can only be removed by a doctor.

image

The Killer Tampon (couldn’t find a site for it), made by retired anaesthetist Jaap Haumann. When penetration takes place, the sharp end will slice the offending appendage.

image

The Anti-Rape Belt (also couldn’t find a site), made by a group of Swedish teenagers led by Nadja Björk. It requires two hands to undo.

image

Anti-Rape Underwear/Bra (once again), as made by a group of Indian students. Will deliver an electric shock when met with unwanted advances, as well as sounding an alarm.

image

Undercover Colours. Made by 4 male undergraduates at North Carolina U, they change colours when in contact with chemicals or drugs that cause unconsciousness. Used in case you’re wary that your drink has been roofied.

These are just tools to help, but in addition to being mindful of your situations and staying safe, they can help when the worst happens.

Stay safe.

ok, those are all kind of awesome. i wish they weren’t needed, bit still…awesome solutions.

I feel more comfortable reblogging this version

RapeAxe has a gofund me up that barely has 700 dollars. I feel like the inventions that havent even been funded yet should be linked to the page you can support them at.

Important for spoonies with cats!

Creams with Flurbiprofen are fatal to cats.

Brands that use this chemical (Not a complete list):

Myoflex
Traumeel
Capzasin

If you have cats, check your pain relieving cream for this, and keep them from ingesting it, please!

You sure have seen this post. It has spread like wildfire over the past few days so I doubt there is any artist out there who hasn’t seen it. But even if you didn’t, you should read on because I’m about to tell you a handy little thing that can help you to protect your art from such assholes as the anon who submitted this bullcrap, as well as art thieves in general.

The magic word is Metadata.

Metadata is like an invisible signature that is embeded into a file. It can contain all kinds of information, like Title, date, keywords for online seach engines, and copyright information. And the best thing is, since this information is “hidden” in the code of your picture, it’s hard to remove it.

There is a nice basic tutorial on how to add Metadata, or “additional file information” to your images in photoshop. It’s really, really easy so check it out!

“Adding Your Contact And Copyright Info To Your Photos With Photoshop” on PhotoshopEssentials.com

I’m not sure if you can do the same with any other art program. If you know how to do this in other programs / can confirm that it works the same way there, please tell me so I can add the information to this post.

Adding the Metadata will not stop idiots from taking and reposting your art. It also won’t make them stop editing out your signature. It WILL however, help you prove that you are the original artist whenever you have to.
Always remember my friends. You, the artist, are protected by law. No one has the right to take your intellectual property and hard work and repost, use or edit it without your permission. Ever.

art thief: well how can you prove its yours??

I spread the word as it is important to all artist who ever suffered from art thieving or so.

You guys, metadata is super important, you guys. In an everday and legal sense. People legitimately look at and rely on metadata to know the basic, but important bits of information about a digital product (paintings, photographs, exe files, etc.), ESPECIALLY the source.

Don’t underestimate it!

So important.

We could use some help getting the word out!

UNDERFELL’s Echo update has been out for a few months now and the response has been totally positive - but not a lot of people know about the game or the update!

We need your help! Let your favorite YouTubers know, leave them a comment or e-mail them, get the word out! Tell people on Facebook, Twitter, what-have-you! Just let them know UNDERFELL is a real free (non-profit) UNDERTALE fangame game and exists! https://gamejolt.com/games/UNDERFELL/196935

Link people to our Game Jolt page and encourage them to make a Let’s Play (I personally love watching them, and so does the majority of my team): https://gamejolt.com/games/UNDERFELL/196935

Reblogs always help, too! It might catch the attention of those who haven’t heard about this project yet!
